Still In The Woods

We received word today that there's been a bit of a setback. The fracture at the base of John's skull is very near the carotid artery, which is the largest blood vessel in the body. Damage to that artery can be catastrophic. The initial reports on the CT Scan showed no damage to the artery but Erlanger ordered a more specific look.

The results came in this morning and showed possible damage. An angiogram is being done to find out for sure. If there is damage, low dose blood thinners may be ordered to prevent clotting in that major artery. There is a bit of a risk reward aspect to using blood thinners in this situation, because John just had a massive head bleed. Blood thinners could increase the possibility of another.

Also, John's blood count is low, and they have started giving him blood.
